My Hidden Secret To Staying Lean

 Actually, those of you that know me, know I can't keep a secret to save my life.  But for the sake of mystery let's just say it's my secret to staying lean and mean. Not only that, this "special something" also has many health benefits which is an added PLUS.  My secret, drum roll please... Apple Cider Vinegar!  Yes I know it's been around for thousands of years.  In fact  back in ancient Egypt time, it was a treatment for coughs and infections.  Nowadays it is known as a weight loss aid and much more.

 

  So what ACV actually?  It is apple juice that has been fermented twice.  First, the apples are crushed and mixed with yeast and sugar. Then after a few weeks the natural bacteria and yeast ferments the juice, changing the sugar into alcohol, then the alcohol onto acetic acid and tada... you have apple cider vinegar.  The raw apple cider vinegar contains natural probiotics which helps your immune system and gut health.  It also contains antioxidants that prevent damage to your body's cells.

 

  There are many studies that show that ACV can actually boost your health.  The biggest claim to fame is blood sugar control.  Studies show that consuming a small amount after your meals can lower your blood glucose, avoiding the insulin spike causing diabetes.  Of course ACV is not enough to do that.  You still need to exercise and follow a healthy diet, but every little bit helps. It can also help decrease bad cholesterol and increase the good.  

 

 Gerd or acid reflux is very unpleasant to have.  Some people swear that ACV helps.  Now there isn't enough science to back it up, but I've seen the benefits.  It is advisable to ask your Gastroenterologist about it.  I have and we agreed it can help in pill form.  

 

  For those of you who suffer with constipation and want to avoid harsh chemicals, ACV is for you.  It has pectin, which is a water-soluble fiber which helps "loosen things up" . Mixed with water and drinking it 2x a day can promote normal digestion and regularity.

 

  Those of you who notice the shine in my hair, thank you.  I condition it with ACV and water 1x a week. It leaves my hair healthy, soft and shiny.  And those of you who have dandruff, it helps destroy the fungus that causes it.  It restores the pH of your hair to keep it healthy.  It also is a natural astringent for your skin.  It can reduce dirt build up which can cause wrinkles and fine lines.  It can tighten pores and tighten skin without spending thousands of dollars.

 

  The minerals in ACV can help not only with pain, but also by reducing the cramping in your legs.  When cramping begins, put 2 tablespoons in warm water and add a dash of honey.  In a few minutes the pain will reduce and the cramps will too.

 

  Acv has always been used to help with coughs and colds and infections.  Congestion, stuffy nose and other cold symptoms will clear up quicker.  It combats both bacterial and fungal infections.  It won't be enough to cure an active case of UTI or ear infection but it can prevent it from recurring.  It can also be used as a topical to prevent acne.

 

  Having persistent hiccups?  Try diluting ACV in water to stop it.  Science shows that the sour compounds in ACV actually stops the hiccups.  ACV also helps with increasing your energy.  When the body is under stress, there is a build up of lactic acid in the body causing a feeling of fatigue.  The amino acids, enzymes and potassium found in ACV helps with that.

 

  And lastly it does trigger weight loss, helps fight cravings and helps reduce belly fat along with diet and exercise.  It's the acetic acid in ACV.  It helps with fat build up.  Again please understand it's an aid to the other two things I mentioned.  You can't sit as a couch potato eating potato chips and take ACV and expect miracles.  With a healthy diet it gives you that extra boost, especially those who accumulate fat around the belly.  

 

  I've used ACV for as long as I can remember, first in liquid form and now as a pill.  As a young teenager my only concern was being thin and any cost, thin was in.  Now as a Doctor I know health is dominant over being thin.  There is a song from Kenny Chesney called "Don't Blink"  In one blink your whole life passes by.  It's so true.  Life is precious, why not live it to the fullest and the healthiest?  Keep your immune system working at its optimal best through Chiropractic care, Diet and Exercise.  Worry less on getting a disease and more on how you can stay healthy to fight it.  So there you have my secret of staying healthy, young and vibrant.  Now it's up to you to put it to work.
